Take me to my Tray
Orientation
Welcome to the Twilight Movie Mystery Quilt Series.  I am very happy that you are
about to embark on your journey of quilt making.  At Zeppelin Threads Quilt Shop, we
strive to push the envelope, create new and exciting projects, and continue to educate
and pass down the art and heritage of quilt-making.  I am a bare-bones,
use-what-you-have  kind of quilter, so I like to promote responsible shopping
experiences and hope to enhance your innate skills of creativity at the same time.

First things first though.  Since this is your orientation, we must go over required
reading before I assign your homework.  Please know that I am always available for
questions, and no question is too silly-EVER.  Please
ask anything.

FLICKR   YEARBOOK
Definition:
Mystery Quilt: A mystery quilt is a quilt project that is completed in stages.  You are given the
instructions one step at a time, and only upon completing the final set do you realize the overall look
of the quilt.  It is a pretty neat way to make a quilt.  Hope you trust me!

sidenote:  This pattern is both hand sewing  and machine sewing friendly.  I do both, and
encourage you to as well!
Required Reading:
I have three documents for you to read.  They are basic instructions for quilting and cover all the
skills you will need for this project.  I hope you print them out and keep them in a binder for future
reference.  Whenever I do a beginner, or even an experienced refresher course, I give these
documents to them.
Supply List:
You will need basic sewing supplies.  A sewing machine is optional if you are doing this all by
hand.  In general you will need: transparent rulers, marking tools (chalk or pencil), scissors or
rotary cutter and mat, needles, thread, straight pins, ironing board and iron, and any other favorite
sewing supplies you have (thimbles, pin cushions, needle threaders, etc.)
Fabric Requirements:
This is another document for you.  Print this baby out and keep it with you when you shop!
Homework:
Due before January 15th....you should do your required reading, and acquire your fabric.  That
might mean a shopping trip!  Don't forget that thrift stores and secondhand shops sometimes have
some neat old clothes you can cut up. I also encourage you to be a patron to a local quilt shop you
might have close to home.

Lastly, HAVE FUN!   Your next assignment will be available on January 15th, 2009.
